Hello world!

2 06 2008

I suffered my ATR on Thursday May 29th while playing tennis, and had surgery on Sunday June 1st.

As an avid triathlete/duathlete, I can safely say that my 2008 racing season is over and so is my streak at Ironman USA Lake Placid (I had completed 9 in a row there). I now look foward to recovering as quick as I can and as safely as I can.

Like the others in this Achillesblog Community, I hope to provide some useful information that others in this same situation can find of benefit.

Welcome to my journey, I wish you all the best with yours as well.

RH

Welcome RH. I have a good friend of mine who is training for the Iron Man here in Switzerland next month. I’m sorry that your streak has come to an end. The good news is you are in great shape and it will make your recovery a bit easier. I ruptured my achilles on May 21 during a basketball game. The hardest part for me so far has been sitting on the couch with my leg elevated and not being active…it’s hard to watch your athletic gains slowly dissapate. :( But, as I keep reminding myself, things could be much worse. All the best to you.

Hey, welcome to the tennis rupture club! Seems like basketball is the major common thread behind many injuries, but there are many tennis players on the blog as well.

I was at net in amy first USTA league match of the season on April 26th. I was just starting to turn to run back when it went. It was my right foot, and felt like someone had drilled a very fast serve into the back of my foot!

What foot did you injure, and what were you doing when it happened?

zurichfan,
All the best to you as well.
You are definitely right, things could be much worse.
They can only make us tougher right?

tennisjunkie,
I injured my left achilles. I hit a kick serve, and I suppose the achilles snapped once my left foot landed on the court. I was not any special huge effort either, fairly routine and relaxed serve. Heal quick!

RH.

Sorry and welcome to our club. Read as much as you can, we all have different protocols based on our education and MDs procedures. You can get into the pool once the sutures heal so ask for a fiber cast. Also start reading the rehab sites so you can get started asap. Believe it or not it goes faster than you think. Read my road to the 3 month mark at http://www.achillesblog/ross
Good luck and let us know if you have questions or need anything

Hi hoss…I ruptured my right achilles tendon on May 28th and am going in for surgery tomorrow, June 4th. I was wondering how you upload pictures to your blog page? I was wanting to do that too with all my free time :)

marianne,
Here is how to post pics or add pics to your post:

From the admin area, click on Write, then go to the Post box and to the right side of that box is a star icon beside Add Media. Click on that and a new box pops up where you can upload pics from your computer (From Computer - Choose Files to Upload).

Keep playing around with it and you will figure it out. Once the picture is uploaded you can drag the picture wherever you want.

Yeah, don’t you love all this free time?

screwdriver,
I know exactly what you mean except for the basketball (although I coach it). Going back to tennis is something I’m already thinking about. I love it too much to give it up but if I had to chose between Triathlon and Tennis, I think Tri would win out. If I go back to tennis, I’m going to search out some braces to use as a preventative measure. Right now, almost every movement is spooking me out. As you and many of us know, the Achilles snapped so easily.
